Ever notice how forgiving loans is suddenly a big problem when students get much-needed relief, but nobody blinks an eye when billionaires get their PPP loans forgiven? Or when corporations are handed billions in subsidies?
Do you all remember Shireen? Journalist. US citizen. Killed in 2022 by the IDF. When I say killed by the IDF that isn't speculation or insinuation. She was shot by an IDF sniper while where a blue press vest. When news of her death first came out Israel said: It wasn't us. "We weren't even in the area. It must have been Palestinian militants". Then they said "Ok, so maybe we were in the area, but we don't think we shot her. The Palestinian militants were shooting at us, so it was probably them." And finally they fell back to "Maybe we shot her while returning fire or something but we didn't know who she was." However, separate investigations from CNN, the Washington Post, and the New York Times all established that there had been no Palestinian gunfire prior, that Shireen was standing with a group of other journalists and wearing a clearly marked blue press vest, and her wounds were consistent with being shot by an IDF sniper (whose presence nearby has been admitted to by the IDF).
This is what I mean when you should trust the IDF as much as you trust the cops after they kill someone. Both come out, leaning on their authority, insisting you have to take their version of events at face value. Both delegitimize the other with: they were probably armed, a thug, not so innocent past, gang member, terrorist… None of these are offered as serious justifications, let alone with any evidence. Their real purpose is to dehumanize the other just enough so they are no longer a human whose story is worth listening to. It's about who gets the benefit of the doubt. When there are confusing conflicting stories cops in uniform get the benefit of the doubt. Black men don't. The IDF does. Palestinians don't. But we know that cops lie and that racism is baked into who they are. The IDF has shown over and over and over again that they lie and that disregard for Palestinian life is part of who they are.
It does @Katherine Bond, it might be possible to get something close to authentic at a costume store. I'm guessing the postal service doe3sn't dole them out to anyone other than the mail carriers.
@Jodi K, Costco has Christmas decor up for sale in late August or early September. It starts slow but I was just there Friday & it is full blown "Christmas is coming"!! That is quite the scene @Brian Fitzgerald. Made me laugh! Costco is always in advance @Katherine Bond. However, every year when I see the first Christmas items for sale it is always kind of a shock.
The wedding party I saw a week ago has been augmented with several more wedding guests, two pole dancers, a lawnmower-equipped murder scene, and a funeral.
People down the block used to have six or seven carved pumpkins (all different) each year. In 2020, one had a mask, and another was carved with the word "VOTE". Sadly, they've moved and the current owners just put out plain gourds and a skeleton. Not as fun.
In the moments before his death — which Israeli officials have said was caused by a bullet to the head — Israeli troops flew a drone into the heavily damaged building where he had fled. A video from the drone, released by the Israeli military, offers a silent account of his final moments. It hovers in an upstairs room, where a masked figure sits alone in a chair, surrounded by dust and rubble. The figure holds a piece of wood in his hand, and, a split-second before the video ends, hurls it at the drone.
Was ein maximales Blutvergießen garantierte.
Sehr richtig.
I don't think it would be helpful overall, but would be consistent with how Bibi is moving. He wants Gaza 100% in Israel. I can see him offering to move all of the Palestinians to the West Bank "temporarily", so rebuilding can take place. Estimates say it will take 30-40 years to rebuilt and there is no where to live there now. If they do go they will not be allowed back in.
Serious question: How is increasing the minimum wage to at least $15/hour “socialism,” but corporations keeping wages low and forcing workers onto public assistance the free market?
